Do you love SOUP? 🥣

Do you love SOUP? And Southern FOOD? And Southern PEOPLE? 😂 Join me as 13 chefs face off in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina to become “Souperstars” and earn the titles of Soup King or Soup Queen for a day. You can also watch and share this video on Facebook and YouTube.

⚠️ WARNING: Do not watch this video hungry! Images contained in this video may make you “hangry” if you haven't eaten lunch yet.

I'm always showing you foreign and exotic foods from places I travel overseas. (Have you seen my video on chontacuro, the South American worms that you eat LIVE?) But today I want to teach you a little something about food from where I'm from — the South!

Welcome to the 11th Annual Murrells Inlet Soup Off where local chefs compete each year for the crown of Soup King or Queen. The event is held at the Suck Bang Blow bar in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina – and yes, that's the actual name of the bar! But that doesn't stop locals and tourists of all ages from attending their annual event – which goes towards a good cause. The proceeds are donated each year to the Shriner Childrens Hospital Burn Unit.

This year on the menu they had everything from chicken kale soups and tomato soups to taco soups and cheeseburger soups! Thirteen soup makers entered the competition with a total of seventeen soups in three categories: Meat, Seafood, and Vegetable.

The judges are a mix of local radio personalities, businesspeople, and public figures. There's also a people's choice award which we the attendees vote on and decide with our tickets.

At the end of the day, the winners are announced in each category, and chefs are given “Souperstar” status for a day, but the real stars of the show are the Shriners Hospitals For Children, who were gifted several thousand dollars in donations as a result of the event — which is what the day is all about.

Eating well, sharing the day with your neighbors, and raising money for a good cause. We came for good soup and good times, and left with full stomachs and full hearts. And that my friends, is a day in the life in the South.

  • The City in Two States – Join me in Tennessee and Virginia's twin city of Bristol, the only city in the USA who's downtown is split exactly down the middle between two states.
  • The House That Won't Die – At 220 years old, after surviving through two wars, 413 hurricanes, and demolition plans to be replaced by a housing development, this house in North Carolina refuses to die!
  • They Have 2 Downtowns – Join me and my brother Jason in Fuquay-Varina North Carolina as we explore his town's not ONE but TWO downtowns!
