Video Transcript

Anthony Bourdain, the world traveling chef and gifted storyteller who took us around the world to explore culture and cuisine for nearly two decades, has taken his final journey.

His rise to stardom began in 1999 when he wrote a New Yorker article, “Don't Eat Before Reading This,” that became a best-selling book in 2000.

Then in 2002 he broke into television hosting A Cook's Tour for two seasons on the Food Network, before moving to the Travel Channel in 2005 to host Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations for 9 seasons and The Layover for 2 seasons. In 2013, Bourdain launched his most famous series Parts Unknown Series which was a breakout hit on CNN where Bourdain traveled the world uncovering lesser known places and brought new cultures and cuisine into homes worldwide.

While accepting the Peabody award in 2013, Bourdain described how he approached his work.

“We ask very simple questions: What makes you happy? What do you eat? What do you like to cook? And everywhere in the world we go and ask these very simple questions, we tend to get some really astonishing answers.”

The world is left with a simple question for Mr. Bourdain that we may never get answered. Today, however, is a day not for asking questions, but for remembering and honoring this great traveler's life, as he enters parts unknown.
