20 Legit Websites to Teach English Online

Hey traveler, while you’re here join my friends list to get all the perks I offer at Travel is Life.

Travel blogging is a tough business and it takes a while for most blogs to start generating revenue. That's why many travel bloggers supplement their income while on the road with remote work like teaching English online. The two most popular websites with the biggest market share are VIPKID and Talk 51, but like any service, they've got their hangups, and you may want to seek other options. Luckily, they aren't the only players in the game, so I've compiled a big list of companies that will hire you to teach English online from anywhere in the world.

Under each website, I've curated information about their payment structure, minimum required experience, commitment expectations, and where to apply, so that you can quickly compare each one. Remember, however, that everything is negotiable, and although some sites say that they require a 4 year bachelor degree, I personally know people who have made it through the application process without. Also note that I left off technical requirements, as they all basically require the same thing, which is a computer, webcam, microphone headset, and at least 2 Mbps upload speed and 10 Mbps download speed. And lastly, keep in mind that you'll be teaching students in China for the most part and need to be able to work on their schedule, which can be quite different than yours depending on where you are in the world at the time. For example, my friend Liz starts her day at 4am teaching for a few hours.

I did my best to vet these companies, read reviews, and speak to travelers who teach English online to curate this list, however, please be cautious and do your own due diligence before applying and seeking work with any of these websites.

Thanks Philip – what’s the starting pay at Just Learn? And what are the requirements for being a teacher?

Teachers set their own tutoring prices. The average price is around $8-10 per hour. We take a 15% fee for all earnings.

        Requirement
        – Native speaker in the language
        – Fast internet connection
        – Check your emails every 12 hours for student requests.

Rype is not Legit . They don’t pay their teachers and they tell them they need to make 100$ to get paid and there are not many students and a bunch of teachers.
They basically make them work for free
You should look around the internet and you’ll find all te bad things about rype. They charge students on their “free trial”and there is even one student who was charged 1,000 and she didn’t authorize it

Thanks for the heads up Gaby. I did some research and read some of the new reviews you mentioned and decided to remove it from the list. Thanks again .
