Join me at a restaurant in Quito Ecuador that's run by the blind and serves meals inside a cave underground in absolute darkness! You can also watch and share this video on Facebook and YouTube.
Rafael Wild believes that food can taste even more delightful when diners can’t see what they are eating. He's also one of the nicest and most welcoming restaurant owners I've ever met! La Casa de Rafa aims to provide jobs for the blind, increase awareness of their daily struggles, and deliver a unique culinary experience.
You can choose to eat underground at La Cueva de Rafa (the cave), or have a more “normal” meal with the lights on upstairs in his restaurant. I chose to eat in THE CAVE and you should too on your first visit…if you can handle the darkness. Eating in complete darkness was a one of a kind experience. To live in a world of complete darkness, even just for one meal, is more than most people, including myself, have ever experienced. And you'll just have to try it for yourself to know what it's like.
