Alpacas love selfies – but they're so much more than selfie loving Instagrammable photo opps. High up in the Andes Mountains of Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, and Chile, alpacas are bred for their super soft fiber and their delicious meat.
Join Kris and I in Cusco Peru where we held alpacas, wore alpaca sweaters, and ate alpaca burgers. You can also watch this video on Facebook and YouTube.

Alpacas loves selfies. You've just got to find them, which is typically at high elevations in the Andes mountains of Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, and Chile.
The alpaca is a domesticated species, not to be confused with their spitting cousins the llama. Alpacas are much smaller and aren't bred for their labor but rather for their super soft fiber.
Their fibers come naturally in 52 distinct colors and are used to manufacture a variety of items like blankets, sweaters, hats, gloves, and scarves.
PAUL: No trip to Peru is complete without purchasing a traditional alpaca sweater.
Alpacas are beautiful docile animals with a unique history.
PAUL: And today I'm going to eat one.
Not only do alpacas make great sweaters they also make great dinners. I'm in Cusco Peru with my buddy Kris and we're headed to Fuego Burgers & Barbecue – the highest rated alpaca burger restaurant in town located just outside of Plaza de Armas in the Centro Historico. And this is where we're going to try some alpaca burgers for the first time.
KRIS: Alright here comes our first taste of an alpaca burger. We've been waiting a little while for this. It looks delicious. [Takes a bite.] That was ******* good. Very good burger. I'm happy.
PAUL: Does it taste like a regular burger?
KRIS: Umm.. it tastes a little juicer. It might be because they're just really good at cooking it. Not gamey at all or anything I was expecting. It does taste really close to a regular burger though, but a damn good one.
So the next time you're in Peru… Hold an alpaca. Wear an alpaca. Eat an alpaca.
PAUL: Just don't tell your vegetarian friends.
[PAUL'S TURN TO TRY ALPACA]
PAUL: Alright so we're in Cusco, Peru. This is my first time trying an alpaca burger. I've heard wonderful things about it, but this will be the real test right here because I'm the judge of what's good and what's bad. [TAKES A BITE] As you might be familiar with all my videos on food… I think this is delicious!
