“If the challenge we face doesn't scare us, then it's probably not that important.” – Simon Sinek
Today's quote is actually an excerpt from the book Together is Better: A Little Book of Inspiration written by one of my favorite authors, Simon Sinek, who you may know from his most famous book Start With Why. I recommend everyone pick up a copy of those books and read them a few times.
There were actually like 20 quotes from Together is Better that I wanted to share, and maybe I'll choose another one in the future, but I felt this one is very relevant to my life and to the lives of travelers.
More than a few times in the past few years, friends have said, “You are fearless. I couldn't do what you do.”
And I admit that my comfort zone is when I'm slightly uncomfortable, which is when I travel. But between you and me, I'm not fearless. I just know that what I'm doing is important to me, so I overcome the fear. I'd hate to look back and think that I didn't go because I was scared of the challenge. Fear and excitement feel very similar in your stomach, and sometimes it's hard to tell the difference.
What upcoming challenge in your life scares you? Lean into it. As Simon Sinek says, the fear just means that it's probably important.
