While traveling overseas, you may have noticed that Google defaults to the local version of their search site. For example, I'm currently in Medellin and am brought to Google.com.co which is Colombia's Google. For local searches, this isn't a problem, but due to my job, I more often than not need to see search results for Google.com since the majority of my visitors and clients are coming from the US.
Temporary Solution: Just enter Google.com into your browser and start your search on their homepage.
That temporary solution works, but if you're like me, you start all of your Google searches in the address bar of your Chrome browser and don't want to take that extra step each time. So here's how to make Google.com your default search engine for Google Chrome at all times, no matter which country you're in.
Step 1: In Chrome, go to Settings –> Search Engine –> Manage Search Engines.
Step 2: Under “Other Search Engines” click “Add”.
Step 3: Enter the following info:
Search Engine: Google.com Travel
Keyword: Google.com Travel
URL with %s in place of query: https://www.google.com/search?q=%s&pws=0&gl=us&gws_rd=cr
Step 4: Scroll down your list of Other Search Engines until you see your newly created “Google.com Travel” listed. Right click the options button next to the name and choose “Set As Default”
Finito! You're all set. Do a quick search starting from your address bar in Chrome and you should be taken to search results on Google.com.
